If you are looking for a site to help you find out what foods have been genetically modified then this site might help you.

http://www.gmo-compass.org/eng/home/

This site is an advocate for GMO farming.  Quite ridiculous, although I found that using there search engine I can find out what foods are being tampered with.  For instance, millet is a GMO product!  Maybe I'm the only one that was naive to the fact that millet is being molested, completely shocked.  From my search on this site I found that the following have not been modified (yet):

quinoa
buckwheat
garbanzo beans
spelt
rye
flax

I am hoping to use some of these to make my own non-GMO bread . . . we will see if it works out. Please, let me know if you have found other results than what I have found.

Vegetarian Diet and mood

There are a lot of different vegetarian diets; lacto-vegetarian, ovo-vegetarian, vegan, or raw.  Some people may even be vegetarian most of the time with a supplemental of meat here and there.  Whatever the case may be there are people examining through research different forms of the diet in order to find out its effectiveness on the body.  In doing my own research I was somewhat surprised to find that research has seen a positive change in mood when it comes to a vegetarian diet.  I was not surprised with the findings because the Bible supports this idea and actually gave us insight into the phenomena long before now.  What surprised me is that man has actually found out through research what God already stated hundreds of years ago.  Dealing with the children of Israel when God brought them out of Egypt, He fed them with bread from heaven. (Exodus 16:4; Psalms 78:25)  But they lusted after the flesh and cried out to God for meat.  God gave them their desire for flesh but told them it would cause them leanness of soul.  (Psalms 106:15; Psalms 78:26-32).  Soul and spirit are interchangeable in the Bible. (1 Samuel 1:15; Job 7:11; Isaiah 26:9).  One of the truths that can be drawn from the Israelite experience is when God stated eating the flesh and lusting after the flesh will cause your soul or the spirit to be lean He meant it, the spirit or mood will be depleted.  Science is seeing the evidence that this is true, when the flesh is avoided a positive change in mood occurs.  You can search the below link and read the study for yourself.

A Nail Mark For The Reformation

Has the Reformation been forgotten?  This is the day that is stamped in history as being the day that Martin Luther nailed his 95 thesis to the church door in 1517.  While Protestants everywhere are filling up on candy do they know what the word protestant means?  I feel the passing of time has caused us to forget the lives that were lost for hundreds of years to aid in the mind set of religious liberty.  That a man is ruled by his own conscious and not the dictates of a church.  This is only one of the views the reformers were fighting for.  Luther, Wycliffe, Huss, Tyndale . . . were leaders in bringing about our liberty today.  This month I have written briefly on who the beast is in Daniel and is also revealed in Revelation.  These reformers paved the way for this Biblical understanding but we need to remember that Martin Luther nailed 95 thesis.  Tony Palmer makes a statement that the protest is over and he is right because Protestants aren’t protesting any more.  He declares that it is because of one issue but in fact there were 95 reasons.  The following video speaks on this:

There are many documentaries on the Protestant Reformation that are available.  Google books is also another source with to search out the history of this movement.  Why is this so important?  Well the pope wants to unite the churches of the world and be the one religious figure and when this happens and those who do not want to follow will be persecuted again.  The Bible states when speaking of the papal church, “and I gave her space to repent of her fornication, and she repented not”. (Revelation 2:21)  We see a similar statement made in Revelation 9:20, 21; speaking of this same entity who was persecuted by the Mahometans  but the papal church repented not.  If she is to rule again the same persecutions will arise again for those who oppose her and her doctrine.

The prophetic chain part 4

I will specifically identify who the little horn is in this blog post.  To aid in the understanding I would like to define clue number 8 in the last post, which stated; Saints will be given into his hand for time, times, dividing of time (Daniel 7:25).  This means that God’s people will be given into the hand of this little horn to be persecuted for 1260 years.  You might ask how I came to 1260 years and the answer is given to us in Revelation where it talks of this same event.  Revelation 12:14 states that this persecution will last for a time, times and a half (dividing of times) while Revelation 12:6 defines that period as 1260 days.  Using the day for a year principle this would equal 1260 years.  The three types of time for a day is given in the last post.  Using that understanding I do not use an indefinite period of time here because a definite period is given and if I look for a prophecy that fulfills the day for a thousand years I will not find one.  When I look through historical events I find an entity that fits the exact day for a year principle (1260 year specification) as well as aligning with all nine points.

With the Huruli, Vandals (some call Carthaginians, Vandals took over Carthage), and Ostorgoths plucked up (destroyed) and the papal authority set up by Justinian; we see that by 538 that three horns were plucked up and papal authority (little horn) is now to rule.  Persecution on those Christians who did not follow the doctrine of Papal Rome were now to be destroyed (given in their hand for 1260 years).  In 1798 exactly 1260 years later this authority was taken away by the captivity of Pope Pius VI by General Berthier.

I challenge each one to do the research for yourselves and test whether these things are true.

Prophetic chain part 3

Before I get into the little horn today I would like to explain the beginning parts of Daniel 11 to confirm the repetition and enlargement of the visions in Daniel.

Daniel 11

This chapter goes into so much greater detail that it is impossible to go into even an eight of the chapter in this blog post.  If you are interested in the breakdown of Daniel and Revelation and how it relates to history, you can purchase the book, Daniel and Revelation by Uriah Smith, on Amazon or you can download it for free at the following site.

http://adventpioneerbooks.com/Text/pioneer/USMITH/DANIEL%20AND%20THE%20REVELATION.pdf

Not only are we told in Daniel 8 that Greece will be the domineering power after Persia but we are also told in Daniel 10:20.  Daniel 11 begins during the time of the reign of Darius the Mede and gives the same type of language to describe Greece.  After describing only 4 of the Persian kings, surpassing the 9 successors after Xerxes the vision deliberately stops with the king that arouses Greece.  The angel then describes Greece in the same language as the previous visions; a king will stand up with great dominion (Alexander the Great) but when he stands up his kingdom shall be broken and divided toward the four winds of heaven (Alexander’s four generals). (Daniel 11:1-4)  The little horn is seen in this chapter as well but not until later because much detail is given to the wars between the kingdom of the north and the kingdom of the south.  From here on i will focus on the texts in Daniel 7 and 8 talking of the little horn and relating them to Revelation.

The Little Horn

Historically we see the validity of the word of God predicting the rising kingdoms to follow Babylon which were; Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome.  It is within this Roman power that the little horn arises. (Daniel 7:8)  Daniel 7:7 states that the dreadful beast with iron teeth had ten horns and verse 24 states that these ten horns represent ten kings that arise after.  These ten kings represent the kingdoms that they rule which were the ten sections that Rome was divided into; Almani (Germans), Visigoths (Spain), Franks (France), Suevi (Portugal), Burgundians (Swiss), Anglo Saxons (English), Lombards (Italy), Heruli (destroyed), Vandals (destroyed), Ostrogoths (destroyed).  The last three kingdoms were the three horns that were plucked up by the little horn. (Daniel 7:8).  It is important to understand that this little horn is a part of Rome for it comes up from Rome.  Some characteristics of this little horn are:
  1.  Eyes like a man (verse 8)
  2. Mouth speaking great things/pompous words/domineering (verse 8)
  3. Look is more stout/chief than his fellows (verse 20)
  4. Subdues three kings (verse 24)
  5. Words will be against the Most High/God (verse 25)
  6. Kills saints/Gods people (verse 25)
  7. Want to change times and laws (verse 25)
  8. Saints will be given into his hand for time, times, dividing of time (verse 25)

What entity came out of the Roman Empire, aided in the removal of three national groups of people, with a man that ruled over the previous 8 kings, and is responsible for killing large amounts of Christians?  This man also spoke words against God and changed time or the reckoning of time, a calendar system?  The prophecy even gives the duration of this man’s rule; time, times, dividing of time, which according to Revelation would equal 1260 days.  (Revelation 12:6, 14)  Since the Bible defines a day as equaling three different periods of time we have to plug all three in to see which one fulfils this prophecy.

In the Bible a Day can equal 3 periods of time

  1.  Indefinite:  Ecclesiastes 7:14
  2. Day for a year:  Ezekiel 4:6
  3. Day for a thousand years:  2 Peter 3:8

Can you figure out what man/men fit this description?

One last clue for today lies in the vision of the statue in Daniel 2.  After the iron legs came the ten toes mixed with iron and clay. (Daniel 2:41)  Clay represents a church or God’s people. (Jerimiah 18:6)  While miry representing muddy or dirty, a horrible pit, representing an unclean church or people. (Psalms 40:2)

  1. The last clue is it has to be a church which fulfills the first 8 points.

Have you guessed it?

Before I go into the little horn I would like to further establish that Daniel’s visions not only enlarge on Nebuchadnezzar’s dream but Daniel’s visions are also enlarging on one another.  In order to see this we need to go to Daniel 8 next.

Daniel 8
Daniel sees a ram with two horns, both horns were high but one was higher than the other.  This ram was pushing in three directions; northward, southward, and west.  Next a goat comes into the scene.  Scripture declares that the goat comes in from the west, does not touch the ground, and had a notable horn between its eyes.  The goat comes to the ram with fury and smites the ram breaking the ram’s two horns.  The ram therefore has no power to stand and is cast to the ground and is stamped on by the goat.  We are also told that when the goat was strong the horn was broken and four other horns grew toward the four winds of heaven. (Daniel 8:3-8)  Then the vision goes into the little horn (which I will touch on later).  Scripture specifically tells us what these two beasts represent.  The ram is Media and Persia while the goat is Greece.  With even more detail we are told that the great horn between the eyes of the goat is the first king but after it is broken the four other horns that arise are four kingdoms that will rise but not in the power of the first king.  (Daniel 8:19-22)

This is where things really start to become amazing.  The visions between Daniel 7 and Daniel 8 are years apart for one.  After a few minutes to hours after an accident a story can change.  Here we have a man having two visions that not only agree with one another but agree with the dream given to Nebuchadnezzar years earlier.  This can only be from a mighty God who is unfolding the future so that people will believe there is a God that knows the beginning from the end.  Scripture declares, we are told these things beforehand so that we might believe. (John 13:19)  The following points will aid in solidifying how infallible the Bible is, which is the word of God.
  1.  The ram’s two horns parallel the Bear in Daniel 7 which had one shoulder higher than the other just as one horn was higher than the other with the ram, revealing that Cyrus was greater.
  2. The ram pushed in three directions which corresponds with the 3 ribs in the bears mouth, the three areas that Media-Persia conquered.
  3. The goat (Alexander the Great from Greece) comes from the west which is literally west of Babylon where Daniel was and the Medes and Persians were ruling.
  4. The goat does not touch the ground indicating Alexander the Great’s swiftness in conquering, paralleling the leopards wings.
  5. The goat has one great horn or notable horn but it is only after it has conquered the ram that it breaks off; just as Alexander the Great dies at his peak after conquering the Medo-Persia.
  6. Just as there were four heads on the leopard in Daniel 7 there are four horns that come up after the notable one was broken off.  This represents the four generals that divided the land (the four winds of heaven) north, south, east, west.

Not only did the Lord specifically tell Daniel what entities these two figures represented years before they happened but the historical events actually took place!  Daniel 11 goes into even more detail confirming prophecy with history.

The prophetic chain part 1

To understand how infallible the word of God is you must be able to see that what it says is true, particularly when it deals with prophetic events.  This may not seem to have anything to do with the theme of this month’s posts, which are dealing with the reformers, but as the prophetic topic unfolds you will see clearly how it ties into the reformation.  It will more than likely take a couple posts but follow along for it is astonishing.
Why is it that the previous post was so important to establish God’s time?  The answer is because the Bible declares that there is an entity that thinks to change “times and laws”. (Daniel 7:25)  This change by man brings confusion when trying to study the word of God.  We must look into scripture and history to find out who this entity is.

Daniel 2
Our prophetic chain will begin with Daniel 2 where Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, has a dream.  Nebuchadnezzar was not only unable to understand the meaning of the dream but he couldn’t even remember the dream.  All he knew was that it troubled him greatly and after getting no answers from his wise men he orders them to be killed.  Daniel, who is among this number, is now sentenced to be put to death and implores Nebuchadnezzar to not act so hastily but give him and his companions time to pray to the God of heaven to reveal the dream and its interpretation.  God indeed revealed both.  The dream is thus revealed in Daniel 2:30-34, which depicts a large image with a head of gold, arms of silver, belly and thighs of brass, legs of iron, and feet of iron and clay.  Verse 38-41 reveals that the head of gold is Nebuchadnezzar which represents Babylon and after Babylon three other great kingdoms shall arise but when you get to the toes the iron and clay is mixed and the kingdom will be partly strong and partly fragile.

Daniel 7
The next link in the prophetic chain is Daniel 7, which is a repeat of Daniel 2 but enlarging on the information while linking it with different figures or symbols.  Verses 4-8 state:
The First Beast - a lion with eagle’s wings is depicted.  The wings are plucked though and the lion is lifted from the earth and made to stand like a man.
The Second Beast – a bear which was raised up on one side with three ribs in its mouth and was told to devour much flesh.
The Third Beast – a leopard with four wings on its back and four heads, which was given great dominion.
The Fourth Beast – was diverse from all the rest it was dreadful with iron teeth and devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet.  It had 10 horns on its head.  Among these 10 horns a little horn came up and plucked out three of the existing horns.  This little horn had the eyes of a man and a mouth speaking great or pompous words.
The Bible reveals the answers to the code.  Daniel 7:17 declares that these great beasts are four kings and that the 10 horns represent ten kings in verse 24.  Daniel is then given more insight into the fourth beast, particularly the little horn that arose from it.
The Little Horn – in verses 21-25 we see that this little horn makes war or kills the saints, he speaks great or pompous words against the most high, thinks to change times and laws, and the saints will have to endure for, “time and times and the dividing of time”.

Both dreams are one and the same, four metals, and four beasts.  The metals represent kingdoms the beasts represent kingdoms.  When the images were shown to Daniel he was receiving a prophetic vision of the kingdoms to come.  Their characteristics were laid out before him and in turn for us as well.  Now let us take a trip into the past.  Much of what I am telling you can easily be searched and studied out using “google books” to search the history and characteristics of these kingdoms.  The Bible said in Daniel two that the first kingdom represented Nebuchadnezzar and thus Babylon.  This is paralleled to the lion in Daniel 7.  When you look into history the lion was a symbol for Babylon, great statues of the lion decorated the kingdom.  This lion stood as a man like that great Nebuchadnezzar.  The second kingdom that came after Babylon was Medo-Persia, which was represented by the silver arms of the statue or the bear with the three ribs in its mouth.  The three ribs represented the three geographical areas that Medo-Persia conquered; Greece, Lydia, and Babylon.  The reason why the Bear was raised on one side was because Persia had more authority and was higher or greater than the Medes.  Next came the thighs of brass correlating with the leopard with four heads and four wings.  This leopard represents Greece led by Alexander the Great who conquered swiftly like a leopard and devoured many kingdoms.  The four heads and wings represent the four generals that would divide his conquests and rule after Alexander’s sudden early death.  The fourth metal of iron connected with the fourth dreadful beast is undoubtedly Rome.  Rome devoured and stamped much.  Ruling with a rod of iron literally; by their technology of the new iron sword.

As for the toes and ten horns and the little horn that arises among them . . . well that will have to wait until another post.  For now study a little of history and go back to the word of God and test these things.  Do not take my word for it but search for yourselves.

Who’s Time?

10/12/2015

To really experience the power of the scripture and how it is a written representative of God we need to look to prophecy.  The non-believer will not understand what faith is nor feel compelled to exercise it if there is no foundation in the word.  An atheist will only see the validity of scripture through the lens of prophecy.  It is written, “I tell you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe I am.” (John 13:19; 14:29; 1 Peter 1:19-21)  When a nonbeliever sees a prediction made hundreds or a thousand years before the actual event took place and it comes to pass, this statistically impossible event will bring power to the word of God.  But if you are a head of a church and want that power and want people to look to you as the guide and ultimate authority then what is the mode of strategy?  Destroy the scriptures.  Destroy it literally by taking it from the people or destroy its power by changing its words.
Before prophecy is unfolded the individual seeking to understand prophecy needs to know that God does not work off of man’s time.  God defines His own time and in order to understand what the Lord is trying to tell us we need to go off of His time table.  Here are a few basic texts to define God’s time:

Dividing of a Day
Two parts evening and morning in that order. Gen. 1:5.  Evening started the next day: Luke 23:54, Lev. 23:32  The day started with the evening not the morning.

Weeks still consistent with creation
A week is 7 days:  Gen. 2:1-3, Ex. 20:11

Months
New Moon Beginning of the Month

Gen 1:14  And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Psa 104:19  He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.
Psa 81:3  Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

See also: 2 Chron. 8:13 (time based on new moon/phase of moon)

Num 10:10  Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.
Num 29:1  And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you.
Psa 81:3  Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.
Isa 66:23  And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

The moon was the indicator for the months which is 29.5 days but the Bible reveals that you round up to 30 days.

30 Days in a Bible Month
Gen 7:11  In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
Gen 8:2  The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
Gen 8:3  And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.
Gen 8:4  And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

Second month minus seventh month equals five months.  Five months divided by 150 days which was the end when the waters abated is 30 days for each of the 5 months.
5/150=30             thirty days in each month b/c go off lunar cycle            30 x 12 months in year = 360

12 Months in a Year
Rev 22:2  In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

The infallible word

This Word
vs.
his word
Picture
Let’s start by unfolding what the two sides say about themselves.  Speaking on the Roman faith, The Faith of Our Fathers by James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, Forty Seventh Edition 112th printing, states; “That God Never intended the Bible to be the Christian’s rule of faith, independently of the living authority of the church.” (p. 67)  The idea is enlarged claiming, “that the Old and the New Dispensation the people were to be guided by a living authority, and not by their private interpretation of the scriptures.” (Gibbons p. 70)  Continuing with the same idea when speaking to members of their own denomination it is proclaimed,

“Children of the Catholic Church, give thanks to God that you are members of that Communion . .      . That you are preserved from all errors in faith, and from all illusion in the practice of virtue.              You are happily strangers to those interior conflicts . . . and to that frightful uncertainty which            distracts the souls of those whose private judgment is their only guide.” (p. 63)

Did you catch what is being said here?  Catholic leaders are saying that the people cannot think for themselves they need a guide or interpreter of the word of God.  Even saying that it is frightful to have private judgment as your guide.  Since the authorities of the denomination believe the church is infallible they can do no wrong or fall to error.  This to me is frightful.  Man can err and the church obviously has, understanding the history of the reformation brings forth those errors.  If this were not enough the scriptures, the Holy Word of God is stripped of its authority for it is declared by this papal leader, “every part of the Bible is far from possessing intrinsic evidence of inspiration.”  (Gibbons p. 71)  This ideology is expounded on even further by pronouncing that,

“the Scriptures alone do not contain all the truths which a Christian is bound to believe . . . The          scriptures alone cannot be a sufficient guide and rule of faith because they cannot, at any time,          be within the reach of every inquirer; because they are not of themselves clear and intelligible            even in matters of the highest importance, and because they do not contain all the truths                    necessary for salvation.” (p. 77)

When you lay out the previous blog with this one you see a church claiming infallibility who is the interpreter of scripture and by the way, not all scripture is inspired and believing in the word isn’t enough to save you.  This goes against the very foundation of God, our free will and to think for ourselves is a gift from the Most High.  This same ideology is what pushed the persecution and dark ages during the papal rule.  If you were caught thinking for yourself and going contrary to the church you were tortured or killed.  Another author ties the past history with the last day events of this earth, the link being the desire to stamp out man’s ability to think for themselves.

“The persecutions of Protestants by Romanism, by which the religion of Jesus Christ was almost        annihilated, will be more than rivaled when Protestantism and popery are combined. The darkest      pages of history will be opened in that great day when it will be too late for wrongs to be righted.      Registered in the book are crimes that have been committed because of religious differences. We      are not ignorant of the history. Europe was shaken as though with an earthquake, when a                  church, lifted up in pride and vanity, haughty and tyrannical, devoted to condemnation and                death all who dared to think for themselves, and who ventured to take the Bible as the                        foundation of their faith.  Our own land is to become a battlefield on which is to be carried on            the struggle for religious liberty to worship God according to the dictates of our own conscience.      Then can we not discern the work of the enemy in keeping men asleep who ought to be awake,          whose influence shall not be neutral but wholly and entirely on the Lord's side? Shall men cry            peace and safety now, when sudden destruction is coming upon the world, when God's wrath            shall be poured out? “  Manuscript Releases Vol. 16, No. 1216 - Experience Following the 1888            Minneapolis Conference; The Danger of Legalism; Emphasizing Religious Liberty, E. White p. 239-      240

One of the conflicts with Satan is the control of your mind.  This wily foe wants to control each one of us.  What is our safe guard?  Is it to follow a supposed infallible man who does not hold the scriptures as his guide?  If that is the case then you will be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine and be deceived.  What is our safe guard?  It is the Word of God.  Only the word of God is infallible and does not lie or deceive.  The “Word” is the very representation of Christ. (John 1:1, 14; Revelation 19:13)  When the papal church says the Word is not enough for salvation then it is ultimately being said that Christ is not enough to save.  Since God cannot lie the word does not lie. (Titus 1:2, 2 Peter 1:19)  The Bible declared that there would be faithful followers who would trust in the word so much that they would be willing to die for it.  (Revelation 6:9)  We see this to be true in history during the time of pagan Rome and then papal Rome where Christians were persecuted and killed for their belief and faith in the Word.  Satan wanted to stamp out the word of God but to no avail.  God preserved His word so that it would be a light to consume the darkness. (Psalms 12:6)

It is argued that prophets and disciples are examples of a church needing a guide or leader to interpret the scriptures.  This is only twisting the word of God for the Lord said that it is His desire, “That all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!” (Numbers 11:20)  God would love to speak to everyone but it is only a few that take time out for Him and devote their life to Him.  The Bible says, “Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”.  (Philippians 2:12)  This is an individual work, it is not work that someone can do for you.  The Bible says that “prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:21)  We are also told that, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God.” (2 Timothy 3:16)  The writers of the Bible were not to be infallible guides to the church but to continue to point to the Word of God.  Moses pointing to the commandments written by the finger of God and to the ceremonial laws and commands and with every prophet after they began to point back to the previous writings.  The disciples of Christ did the same thing, a lot of their writings are expounding on the old.  You simply cannot understand the book of Revelation unless you understand the Old Testament.  The lack of contradiction in the scriptures and cohesiveness over thousands of years only proves its divine authority.  As the story unfolds through the remainder of this month you will see the power of the Word of God through prophecy.  It is prophecy that reveals to a faithless world that you can have faith in the Word of God and it will do what it says it will do.

Infallible

The pope’s position is a unique one since he is head of state but he is also head of a denomination as well.  There have been many head of states speak with the Executive branch but not our Legislative branch.  It is simply not necessary; we have supposedly voted a group of leaders that should be smart enough to figure out the issues of our country and do not need a foreign head of state to help give us a moral compass.  I will state it again there are so many political angles as to why this is wrong but I will be focusing on the religious angle from a Christian world view.

The pope is looked at as infallible and the head of God’s church.  In fact from the book, The Faith of Our Fathers by James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, Forty Seventh Edition 112th printing p.57 states that; “The Church has authority from God to teach regarding faith and morals, and in her teaching she is preserved from error by the special guidance of the Holy Ghost.”  When speaking on the scriptures the author states, “for an infallible book is of no use to me without an infallible interpreter”.  (Gibbons p.58)  In fact it is believed that, “the church is the divinely appointed Custodian and Interpreter of the Bible.  For, her office of infallible Guide were superfluous if each individual could interpret the Bible for himself.” (Gibbons p. 67)  How is it that the papacy came to this conclusion that the church is infallible and the guide to the scriptures?  The idea comes from a twisted interpretation of scripture,

. . . we have positive evidence from scripture that the Church cannot err in her teachings.  Our            Blessed Lord, in constituting St. Peter Prince of His Apostles, says to him:  “Thou art Peter, and            upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”  (Matt.              16:18)  Christ makes here a solemn prediction that no error shall ever invade His church, and if          she fell into error the gates of Hell have certainly prevailed against her. (Gibbons p. 58)

Their thought is that Christ said that the church will be built upon Peter claiming that Peter was the first pope.  When in fact Jesus is not calling Peter a rock nor is He saying that the church will be built on Peter.  The scripture reads: (emphasis added is mine)
Mat 16:18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this (meaning Christ “himself”) rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
The Greek meaning for Peter is:  Πέτρος Petros pet'-ros, a piece of a rock while the rock that the church will be built on is called πέτρα petra pet'-ra, meaning a mass of rock.  So Peter is a piece of rock while Christ is a mass of rock.  We do not need to know Greek or Hebrew to understand the scriptures for the word of God explains itself.  When you study the Bible like the Bible says the scriptures become clear and you do not need a guide to tell you what they mean.  When placing line upon line (Isaiah 28:10) or scripture upon scripture we will have many answers to the question is Peter the Rock that the church is built on or is it Christ?

First the scripture says that the Lord is the rock:
1Samuel 2:2  There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
2Samuel 22:32  For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?
(See Also:  2 Samuel 22:2, 47; Psalms 18:2, 31, 46; Psalms 28:1)

Scripture also says that it is Christ who is head of the church:
Eph 1:20  Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Eph 1:21  Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
Eph 1:22  And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
Eph 1:23  Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

(See also: Ephesians 5:23; Colossians 1:13-18)

Since Christ is the Chief Cornerstone (Acts 4:10, 11; 1 Peter 2:6) and Christ is the Rock, it is upon Him (Christ) not Peter (a man) that the church is built on.  The word infallible is in the Bible once and it refers to Jesus.  (Acts 1:3)  There are many cases in the Bible where God uses man as a guide but how do you measure them?  How do you know if they are a false teacher or a true?
Isa 8:20  To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Scripture says if they (the guide or teacher) are not speaking according to the word of the law of God and the testimony of the prophets then there is no light in them.  If an individual contradicts the law of God and/or the other prophets then they are a false teacher or guide and there is no light in them.  Therefore if you follow this false teacher then you will stumble in darkness.  Man is not infallible and the pope is only a man.  The scripture does not support their claim to be a guide in religion or moral.  So what what was it that congress was hoping to gain by having the pope speak?
